Shawdesh Desk: Hundreds of trucks and other vehicles are parked illegally on both sides of Mayor Annisul Huq road in the capital’s Tejgaon Industrial Area every day, turning into the whole area a parking place again.
A group of influential grabbers have occupied roads and free spaces in the area and are keeping trucks, covered vans, pick-ups and other types of vehicles in a random way.
As a result, movement of vehicles and pedestrians has become difficult on different roads around Tejgaon area.
Trucks, covered vans, pick-ups and other similar transports are parked on these roads which pose severe complications to traffic movement from Sat Rasta Square to Tejgaon rail crossing areas. For this reason, traffic jam takes place every now and then on these roads.
In November, 2015, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), led by its former Mayor Annisul Huq, evicted illegal parking spaces from different parts of Tejgaon area. This drive facilitated traffic movement and reduced traffic jam.
In December 2015, he opened the road for city dwellers’ use, defying strong resistance by truck drivers and transport workers.
However, the road gradually got occupied again, since his death on November 30, 2017 at a hospital in London.
Later, on December 1 last year, the Satrasta-Tejgaon Railgate road was named after Annisul Huq, marking his first death anniversary.
